Below is on of my favourite photos from the most recent birth I attended.
And today is the day the IAPBP 2017 Image of the Year Competition winners are announced.
And I entered this photo!
I just about chickened out and didn't enter but I hit 'send' before I could do so. And ever since I've been questioning my decision, but you know what, I'm glad I did!
I know I won't win, and thats ok, because I didn't enter in hopes of winning - I entered because I love birth and I am excited to start my journey as a Birth Photographer & Doula.
I was so excited to use this as motivation and also to see what I will have under my belt by next year when I will enter again. This competition helped serve as a little push to get my butt moving, to get the ball rolling on actually making this Birth Photography/Doula thing happen for myself - because it so so completely what I want to do!
There are so many incredibly amazing birth photographers out there, whose images I am constantly drooling over. So many local talents I've been looking up to for so long, like Ashley Marston and Kim Kitchen who have guided me down this path by sharing their amazing photos with the world.
And now that the entries are up for viewing I am so blown away by all the photos! SO. BEAUTIFUL!
Anyway, I entered because I love birth and because birth is beautiful and I truly believe in normalizing birth and helping show everyone just how crazy amazing it is!
If you have time, check out all the super amazing entries - http://birthphotographyimagecompetition.com
Please note: While birth is beautiful, it is also messy and real. You should expect nudity when viewing the entries.
